Thanks to negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), Williams Bros. can help you stave off infection while helping your open wounds heal quicker.
Who can benefit from NPWT?
Negative pressure wound therapy is a natural choice for patients with wounds that are at a high risk of infection. The following list is just a sample of the types of wounds that may benefit from NPWT. Be sure to ask your doctor if NPWT could help your wounds heal.
- Acute complex wounds
- Burns
- Chronic wounds
- Diabetic ulcers
- Skin grafts
- Wounds with excessive drainage
- Pressure ulcers
How does negative pressure therapy work?
If your doctor agrees that NPWT is the right fit for your wound, the wound will be packed with a special dressing and sealed so it’s airtight. A suction tube connects to the outside of the dressing then to a vacuum pump that will provide suction to remove liquid from the wound and help it heal.
As a NPWT patient at Williams Bros., we work in tandem with your home healthcare nurse who will visit your home when your dressing needs to be changed. You can also have your dressing changed at a wound care center or your doctor’s office.
What are the benefits of NPWT?
Since negative pressure wound care puts an airtight seal around your wound, it lowers the risk of infection, increases your blood circulation, and promotes faster healing. It also reduces the number of dressing changes you’ll need compared to other types of wound care.

Pressure Reducing Surfaces
Pressure is the real enemy of patients with severe wounds, but it’s not easy to avoid pressure when you’re sleeping in a traditional bed. One of the most effective ways to treat and prevent pressure ulcers is by sleeping on a specialty mattress or support device.
Williams Bros. offers a wide range of support surfaces ranging from alternating pressure mattresses with low air loss to stage 4 beds and overlays. Each product provides optimal offloading while putting your comfort first.

Group 1 Mattress: Gel Overlays
If you have limited mobility or a stage 1 or 2 pressure ulcer, your insurance may cover the costs of a group 1 mattress.
Group 2 Mattress: Low Air
Loss Mattresses
If you have a large stage 3 or 4 pressure ulcer on your torso — or if you have multiple stage 2 pressure ulcers that haven’t gotten better on a group 1 mattress — your insurance may cover the costs of a low air loss mattress.
Group 3 Beds: Air Fluidized Therapy Bed
If you have a stage 3 or 4 pressure ulcer and haven’t gotten better on a group 2 mattress, your insurance may cover the costs of an air fluidized therapy bed. These are for patients with limited mobility.
Air Fluidized Beds
If you haven’t seen results with a low air loss mattress, you aren’t out of options. Air fluidized beds are an advanced solution to evenly distribute your weight, and significantly reduce pressure.
By reducing pressure on your wounds, air fluidized beds allow blood to flow and accelerate the healing process. Studies show that these beds reduce severe wound size two to three times faster than other medical air mattresses.
